Alamere Falls

Filed under:  — Jason Lustig @ 9:31 pm

Lisa, Karen, Brian and I had an enjoyable hike to Alamere Falls located in Point Reyes National Seashore. It is one of the few waterfalls that spill directly into the ocean. The trail starts from the Palomarin Trailhead in an old eucalyptus tree grove then opens up with ocean views. We could see a large pod of whales near the ocean surface off Abalone Point. We took the unofficial trail to the falls and ate lunch at the cliff where Alamere Creek spills over the edge. After lunch, we scrambled down to the beach and were visited by a baby seal at the base of the falls. On our way back, we stopped to look at the many different flowers that were in full bloom.

Carson Pass Snowshoe

Filed under:  — Jason Lustig @ 9:06 pm

Frank, David, Bex and I did a little snowshoe trek to the top of Elephant’s Back Mountain and Winnemucca Lake. The weather was nice and the view was great. There was more exposed rock than I was expecting but it was still a fun snowshoe trip.

Afterward, we refueled our bodies with some Texas Jailhouse Chili from the Deer Ridge Inn in Pioneer. The Deer Ridge Inn also has a military and police museum that had some very unique and rare collections such as the original blue prints to the U.S.S. Nickolas Navy destroyer and a Nazi flag that was taken down during battle in WWII.
