Winterfest 2006
This was an interesting trip. The plan was to celebrate New Years from a toasty Teepee with a wood stove. We started snowshoeing from the Bunny Flats Trailhead on Mt. Shasta to meet the others already at camp. Unfortunately, it was snowing like crazy. We estimated it to be about 3 inches per hour and everyone that was already at camp was busy shoveling snow to keep their tents from collapsing. We talked with a ranger and he warned us that another 6 feet was forecasted with no breaks. Staying awake all night digging out tents didn’t sound like much fun so the group decided to pack out. The group rendezvoused at The Black Bear Diner for dinner. Bob offered his 7 level home for everyone to crash for the night. Since the home was still under construction and didn’t have electricity or plumbing everyone decided it was an acceptable alternative to snow camping. The Family Room was turned into a party room were we celebrated New Years 24 hours early. Hopefully the weather will be more cooperative next year.
Big thanks to MtnSteve for organizing this trip and Bob for sharing his home. Also thanks to Naviguesser for driving.
