Table Mountain

Filed under:  — Jason Lustig @ 12:58 pm

This was a great hike with Karen, Lisa, Theresa, Paige, and Mary on an 8.4 mile cross country hike at Table Mountain in Oroville. The highlight of the hike was Phantom Falls. There isn’t a trail to Phantom Falls but navigating is pretty easy in the open pasture land. The falls drop 130 feet to the oak forest below. We saw several other waterfalls as well as many wildflowers too.

McGurk Meadow - Yosemite

Filed under:  — Jason Lustig @ 8:06 pm

I met up with Songbyrd, Rockman, Naviguesser, Bex, Drunken Marmot, and Steve for a couple nights in Yosemite. We skied into Peregoy meadow the first night where we witnessed a dramatic lightning show. Then we moved on to McGurk Meadow for the second night. We didn’t see many other people out there. I guess the weather scared them off.

American River Bike Trail

Filed under:  — Jason Lustig @ 10:22 pm

The weather cleared long enough to join up with some cyclist from the Sacramento Recumbent Club for a 30 mile ride along the American River Bike Trail to Old Town Folsom for lunch.

The American River Bike Trail is one of the coolest things going for Sacramento. It stretches over 32 miles long, starting in Old Sacramento and going all the way to Folsom Lake in one continuous paved path. There are also separate equestrian trails that parallel the bike path. People often commute to work by bicycle along this gorgeous trail with river and lake views. No matter where someone lives in the Sacramento area, they are never more than a 20 minute drive from the parkway. There are also many grassy picnic areas and parks along the trail along with emergency phones, trashcans and water fountains. On any given day I often see many cyclist and joggers on the paved trail, but there are also fishers, kayakers, and rafters along the river and on occasion I will see a horseback rider. If you’re ever in the Sac area, bring your bike or kayak and explore this beautiful parkway.
