Andreya is born.
Alda and I had an appointment at Mercy Folsom Hospital to begin induction on Sunday evening at 8pm because our doctor was concerned with Alda’s hypertension throughout her pregnancy. The plan was to induce the baby Sunday night so she would be born vaginaly Monday morning. Unfortunately Alda became sick Sunday afternoon and when we got to the hospital, her heart rate was at 185 beat per minute so most of the night was spent getting her fluid levels up and stabilizing her heart rate. We began inducing with pitocin at 8:00 am on Monday. By 5:00 pm she was at 4 cm and she was given a combo spinal/epidural anesthetic. She labored hard for five hours and she was still at 4 cm and the doctor said it is usually because the head is too big for the birth canal and recommended cesarean surgery. Twenty five minutes later I was a dad! Andreya Rea Lustig was born May 12, 2008 at 10:57pm. She was 19 inches long and weighed 6 lbs 4 oz. Delivered by Doctor Haskins and Nurses Maryam and Sherri at Mercy Folsom Hospital.
