stuff.
Stig literally means "path" in Swedish, which
originated as the short form of the word stigandr, which means "wanderer" or "pathfinder". In German,
the word Lustig translates to "funny" or "cheerful" and
the name Jason is of Greek origin meaning "healer".

Autobiography
of Jason A. Lustig
On December 31,
1977; in Templeton, California I was born as Jason Adam Mosher to Joy and Keith
Mosher and we lived on a ranch in Creston, CA. At age five, my parents separated.
My mother and I moved a few times until finally staying with my grandparents;
Bob and Donna Lutz in Camarillo, CA. My father died in June of 1984 when he was
hit by a car.
In 1984, my mother
met and fell in love with John Lustig, a man she met at work. They were later
married on May 3, 1986. My mother and I then moved to John’s house in Oxnard,
CA. At the time, John had two daughters, Vikki who was in the Navy and Stacy,
who lived with her mother and visited us on some weekends. On weekends we would
often go camping and four wheeling at Pismo Beach. We also spent time camping in
the mountains north Ojai in the Los Padres National Forest. During that time I
also played soccer and baseball. On December 09, 1987 my adoption by John was
finalized and I became Jason Adam Lustig.
I attended a
private Christian school in Port Hueneme until we moved to Santa Ynez at the age
of ten in 1988. At the age of eleven I became involved with the Boy Scouts of
America. I Joined BSA Troop 41 at a Troop meeting and the next week I went to
Boy Scout Camp Rancho Alegre with the troop for a week.
As a Boy Scout, I
had the privilege to participate in many exciting events. Among those events
were attending the 1993 National Scout Jamboree at Fort A. P. Hill in Virginia.
While back there we also toured Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. In 1994 at
the age sixteen, I was elected as the Senior Patrol Leader and was very active in
planning and organizing events for the troop. I attended National Leadership
Training at Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico and a twenty day backpacking trip
that combined leadership training and leave-no-trace backpacking ethics. I also
volunteered as staff at the Boy Scout Camp to teach leadership, camping and
orienteering merit badges. In 1995 I was awarded my Eagle Scout Rank, the
highest rank in Boy Scouts.
In the spring of
1995 my family relocated to Cameron Park, CA which is about 30 miles east of
Sacramento. I continued my general education at Oak Ridge High School in El
Dorado Hills with a special interest in black and white photography, graduating
in 1996 at the age eighteen. After graduating from High School, I got an evening job
working as a cook at the local Carl's Jr. and enrolled in the Sierra College
Fire Academy. While working at Carl's Jr.; I met and fell in love with Alda
Baldwin, also a '96 Oak Ridge graduate. In 1997, I received certifications as a
HAZMAT First Responder and as an EMT through Sierra College and trained and
worked through the summer as a wildland firefighter.
My step-sister
Vikki was killed in May of 1997 by a reckless driver; the following legal
battles were very stressful on John and the rest of our family.
In 1998, I bought
my first recumbent bicycle in what later lead to an obsession with designing and
building my own recumbent bicycle. I rode frequently with the Recumbent Riders
of Sacramento Club and raced at the San Jose Helyer Park Velodrome. Later I
sold the bike to make a down payment on a car. I worked through the summer as a
painting Foreman with Student Works Painting. Later that year my mother moved
out and my parents divorced. Also during that summer, I began to plan a six
month hike from Georgia to Maine backpacking the Appalachian Trail. I departed
Springer Mountain in Georgia on March 24, 1999; and backpacked 2,160 miles to
Mount Katahdin in Maine and completed the adventure on September 23, 1999.
When I returned
from the A.T., I went to work for a carpet cleaning company and finished the
last few classes I had remaining at Sierra College. I graduated with two
Associates Degrees; one in Liberal Arts and the other in Fire Technology. In
the summer of 2000 at age twenty two, I thru-hiked the 220 mile John Muir Trail in a
fast paced eleven day solo backpacking trip. In 2001, I became a volunteer
firefighter with Fire Station #89 in Shingle Springs, CA.
On August 25,
2001; which was a beautiful sunny Summer day, about seventy five friends and family
joined us as Alda and I exchanged our wedding vows. The service and reception
was held at my step-father's house in Cameron Park, were we continue to live.
In 2002 I became
licensed by the State Fire Marshal to service portable fire extinguishers and
took a job as a service technician.
In 2004, I self
taught myself basic HTML and web design and this website was born. In that
summer I climbed the Sierra Buttes and rediscovered old hobbies and began hiking
regularly again and working on my photography skills. Later in 2004 we had a
surprise when we learned that I had another step-sister named Laura. She had
spent the last several years searching for John, her biological father.
In 2005, I
finished designing and building my custom Carbon Fiber Recumbent bicycle. That
summer, I also reunited with a couple high school friends and we completed the
John Muir Trail, this was my second hike on what is known as one of the most
beautiful trails in the world.
In 2006, at the age
of twenty eight, I took a week long vacation and backpacked the Grand Canyon. I also
took a position as a Production Supervisor with Arrow Springs; a manufacturing
company in Shingle Springs, CA. Later in that winter, Alda and I took a two
week vacation with several friends to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, celebrating our
five year wedding anniversary with a very memorable buggy tour on muddy roads.
In 2007 I enrolled
in the American River College welding program. That spring, I climbed Mount
Shasta. I also competed in the Chico Wildflower Century which is a one hundred
mile timed
bicycling event from Chico, CA to Oroville, CA on scenic backcountry roads. In the
summer, Alda and I took a ten day vacation with Alda's family to Cabo San Lucas,
Mexico.
Alda became
pregnant in August of 2007 with our first child. She is due to be born on May
20, 2008; our daughters name will be Andreya Rea Lustig.
